Christoph Janz, Point9 Capital
Over the course of his career, Christoph Janz has co-founded and developed several startups and has become one of the best sources of knowledge when it comes to SaaS. In 1997, he co-founded DealPilot.com, among the first comparison shopping services on the Internet that raised over $10M in investments.
In 2011 Christoph co-founded Point9 Capital which has offered vital support for the growth of the European SaaS ecosystem ever since. Since then, the firm has provided investments to startups ranging from a couple of hundred thousand dollars to more than two million as well as follow-up support. Christoph was the first investor in Zendesk, and his portfolio also includes Geckoboard, ChartMogul, Contactually, and a number of other companies.
Dharmesh Thakker, Battery Ventures
Dharmesh Thakker joined Battery Ventures in 2015 where he currently focuses on cloud infrastructure, big data and embedded software investments. At Battery, Dharmesh is involved with supporting the company’s portfolio companies such as Agari, Databricks, Jask, Sensu and others. Dharmesh’s specialties include product launching and directing go-to-market for cloud and mobile infrastructure solutions as well as channel development with technology OEMs.
Previously, Dharmesh was a Managing Director at Intel Capital where he led investments in those areas, and companies such as 10gen, Actifio, ElasticBox, and Nuventix. He participated actively in strategic planning for the company’s $14 billion data center group.
This year, Dharmesh was featured in Business Insider’s 23 Top Venture Capitalists in Enterprise Tech list.
Evgenia Plotnikova, Dawn Capital
Evgenia Plotnikova began her journey in the investment world in 2014 at TPG Capital. There she was an Associate and worked on several transactions across sectors as well as supported portfolio companies in their operations and development. Later she worked as a Senior Associate at the tech investor Atomico, one of Europe’s largest VC firms. During that time she was also included in Forbes’ “30 Under 30” list of leading young entrepreneurs.
In March 2018, Evgenia joined Dawn Capital where she is currently responsible for sourcing, due diligence and execution of early-stage tech investments in European B2B SaaS and fintech scale ups. Dawn Capital’s portfolio includes businesses such as Mimecast, iZettle, iControl, Showpad, and others.
Shardul Shah, Index Ventures
Shardul Shah joined Index Ventures in 2008 and became a Partner in 2016. His current focus is on security, DevOps and enterprise software. He is a board member at Datadog, Outbrain, Iterable, Signal Sciences and others. Apart from that, Shardul has also supported investments in several other companies such as Adallom, Lacoon, Squarespace and Dropbox.
Before he joined Index, Shardul was an Associate at Summit Partners where he worked primarily with healthcare and internet technologies. Earlier, Shardul obtained a BA in Economics and one in Biology with a specialisation in Immunology at the University of Chicago. For a while, he also worked as a molecular biology research technician there.
Megumi Ikeda, Hearst Ventures
Megumi Ikeda is the General Manager of Hearst Ventures Europe as well as the Managing Director of Hearst Ventures. Hearts Ventures is one of the largest diversified media, information and services companies in the U.S. with over 360 businesses. Portfolio companies of Hearst Ventures include HootSuite, Buzzfeed, Pandora, MobiTV, and others.
At Hearst, Megumi oversees investments and non-organic acquisitions across Europe. Her specialities include fund raising, investments, joint ventures and partnerships. She is also specialised in business development and change management, deal structurings, divestitures, team management and more. Before she joined Hearst in 2014, Megumi was part of NBCUniversal & GE Capital where she was vice president and later on Partner, and ran the $250M venture fund.
Ben Blume, Atomico
Ben Blume has been an Associate, senior Associate and is currently a Principal on the investment team at Atomico in London. There, Ben is looking for deep tech companies that are targeting inefficiencies in areas such as AI, machine learning, big data, IoT, robotics, and drones. He is also interested in companies that develop enterprise software solutions such a developer tools and infrastructure.
Before he became part of Atomico, Ben was an Associate Consultant at Bain & Company where he performed corporate strategy work, due diligence, and post-acquisition work in various sectors. At Atomico, Ben is closely involved with investments and work with portfolio companies such as Bitmovin, Graphcore, Scandit, EVRYTHNG, and others.
Jannat Shah, AXA Venture Partners
Jannat Shah is an Associate with AXA Venture Partners (AVP) in London. AVP is the venture capital fund backed by AXA, and manages $450m dedicated for either direct investments or their FOF activity.
At AVP, Jannat focuses on later-stage European venture investments in fintech, enterprise/SaaS, digital health and consumer technologies. Before she joined AVP, Jannat worked as an investment banking analyst for Deutsche Bank where she covered financial institutions. She was also a global distribution intern at Citadel Investment Group.
AVP’s SaaS portfolio includes companies such as ForceManager, One, Inc, Security Scorecard, Contrast Security, Phenom People.
Guillem Sague, Nauta Capital
Guillem Sague is a Partner at Nauta Capital in Munich where he leads their investment operations for Germany, and focuses on deal origination, due diligence and support of the portfolio companies. Nauta Capital’s focus is on investing in the information and communication technology (ICT) sphere, and in particular in capital-efficient B2B software companies. As a Partner at Nauta, Guillem has so far made an investment in Talentry.
Prior to becoming a Partner, Guillem was an investment manager for Nauta in Barcelona. During that time he participated in investments in Geoblink, Lodgify, Nextail, Onna, Holded, and Landbot. At one time, he was also an investment manager at High-Tech Gründerfonds, the largest seed fund in Germany, as well as a general manager at a manufacturing plant in China.
When he has some free time, Guillem likes to climb, run and read books about investments.
Stuart Paterson, Scottish Equity Partners
Stuart Paterson is a Partner and co-founder of Scottish Equity Partners (SEP). SEP is a leading UK venture capital firm that makes investments in high growth technology and technology-enabled businesses and manages over $1B in funds. Stuart has over 20 years of experience in investment and currently focuses on consumer internet and enterprise software.
Last year, Stuart was featured on Forbes’ ‘Midas List’ as one of the most successful European investors. Currently, he sits on the Board of online eyewear retailer Mister Spex, and online flash sales retailer for outdoor and sports clothing Sport Pursuit. He also backs the online language learning company Babbel and the social marketplaces for crafts startup LoveCrafts.
Carina Namih, Episode 1 Ventures
Carina Namih has been a Partner at Episode 1 Ventures since 2017. Episode 1 Ventures is an early stage venture capital firm that primarily invests in UK technology startups. They are particularly interested in deep tech solutions that disrupt and reinvent markets. Their portfolio includes companies like AimBrain, Adludi, carwow, Context Scout, FATMAP, scurri, and others.
Before joining Episode 1 Venture, Carina co-founded and was the CEO of biotech startup HelixNano. HelixNano is among the first to have applied machine learning to genetics with the specific aim of curing genetic diseases. Prior to that, Carina was a mergers and acquisitions (M&A) advisor Goldman Sachs where she participated in deals with large tech and biotech companies.
Jasper Masemann, Holtzbrinck Ventures
Jasper Masemann is a Principal at Holtzbrinck Ventures (HV), one of the largest early stage European venture funds. HV manages over €1B in funds and has, over the years, invested in over 160 companies among which are Zalando, Flixbus, HelloFresh, and others.
At HV, Jasper contributes with his solid entrepreneurial, strategic consulting, and angel investment experience. He is particularly interested in B2B solutions that provide AI, software and data-driven solutions. Under his direction, HV has invested in Zeitgold, Lingokids, Verbit.ai, i2x, and others.
Prior to joining HV, Jasper was the CEO and founder of text production platform greatcontent.com which he later sold to MairDumont Publishing Group. Jasper has also actively supported the Berlin Internet scene and startup ecosystem as a mentor and business angel.
Marili Merendi, Karma Ventures
Marili Merendi joined Karma Ventures in 2016 and is currently an Associate there. Karma Ventures is an early-stage VC firm from Estonia, that specialises in late seed and A round investments. In May of this year, Karma Ventures closed its maiden fund at €70M which it will use to invest in European deep tech startups. Current companies on their portfolio include TrademarkNow, Adaptive Simulations, SpectX, Plumbr, AppGyver, and others.
Prior to joining Karma Ventures, Marili was part of the OTC Client Valuations team at UBS Wealth Management. There she also served as client advisory in the support of high-net-worth individuals in the Nordic markets.
Javier Torremocha, Kibo Ventures
Javier Torremocha is a Founding Partner at Kibo Ventures. Javier has two decades of transaction experience with venture capital funds and top-tier financial firms such as Lehman Brothers, NetJuice Capital, and UBS. Kibo Ventures is based in Madrid and is an early stage VC firm that manages two funds at a total of €115M in assets under management (AuM).
Kibo Ventures is actively involved in the development of its portfolio companies in Spain and abroad. They have, to date, invested in over 45 of them with a number of exits to various tech groups. Kibo’s portfolio companies include Flywire, Logtrust, Jetlore, Tappx, Iguama, Odilo, and many more. Just recently Kibo Ventures also backed DefinedCrowd, a data platform for AI and machine learning.
Marie-Hortense Varin, Partech Ventures
Marie-Hortense Varin is a Principal at Partech in Paris. There she is focused on venture activities, in particular in SaaS, infrastructure software, audience businesses, and all sorts of other tech and digital solutions. Partech is among the top 10 VC funds globally, and actively manages a fund of €1B which it invests in tech startups at seed, venture and growth stages.
Before she joined Partech, Marie-Hortense was a consultant at Bain & Company. There she worked on both strategy (performance improvement) cases and private equity cases. She also teaches a class on Business Model Innovation as part of a Masters program at Sciences Po in Paris.
When she’s not occupied with any of the above, she loves to fence, sail, listen to electronic music and enjoys internet memes.
Frederic Huynen, HPE Growth Capital
Frederic Huynen is the Vice President of HPE Growth Capital (HPE). As an investor, he has experience in growth investing, corporate finance, fintech, and enterprise SaaS. As an independent private equity firm, HPE seeks to make expansion and growth capital investments in tech companies across Northern Europe that are looking to accelerate their growth. HPE’s investments so far include NGData, Kreditech, PPRO, eGym, Tiqets, and others.
Before HPE, Frederic completed a wide variety of educational programs and gained experience through concluding various internships in different sectors. Frederic enjoys travelling and has a taste for good food and a glass of wine.
Margaret Perchik, Prime Ventures
Margaret Perchik joined Primer Ventures (PV) as an Associate in 2017. PV manages approximately €700M, and is focused on making investments in high growth tech-driven companies across Europe. Its areas of investment focus include consumer internet, e-commerce, digital media, software, communications, infrastructure services, clean tech, and more.
Before she joined PV, Margaret was an Associate at MMC Ventures. There she participated in a number of early stage investment in enterprise software, fintech, and e-commerce. She was also focused on evaluating investment opportunities in early stage tech companies.
Donatella Callegaris, Columbia Lake Partners
Donatella Callegaris has been a director at Columbia Lake Partners (CLP) since 2013. There she is specialised in and oversees the whole life cycle of a deal from origination, and assessment, to evaluation and post investment monitoring. She is also actively involved in spotting high growth tech companies that require financing and match CLP’s interests and requirements.
Donatella describes herself as a confident communicator who has an entrepreneurial and multicultural approach, and is capable of creating long-term professional relationships. Previously, she worked at Kreos Capital where she managed the portfolio over the life of two funds. There she also oversaw due diligence processes, pre-investment proposals, as well as the drafting and negotiation of term sheets.
